Prototyping

Step by step with the help of computer models and physical prototypes the search for the best design solution advaces. In this stage there were three main design researches. As shown in the sketches and ideas section loads of ideas were generated out of which one was the first to investigate on:

-Dividing the free-form facade surface into small overlapping panels like a dragon skin. After many different approaches the conclusion could be drawn that this is not a suitable solution as concessions had to be made in making several separate systems to make it possible at all. (Waterproof layer, insulating layer, structural layer, damp layer etc.)

-I radically changed the design to a system with ribs and folding panels. Because this is more easily modeled and constructed than the dragon skin the focus was more on the design as on the technical development.

-In the end, by extending the concept of ribs and folding panels, it led to a satisfying design proposal. At this stage any of the prototyping on the last design has yet to be made.
