Each lamp can be controlled by a Stepper motor. A stepper motor keeps track of the amount of steps that it has taken clockwise or counterclockwise. Due to this function the stepper motor is extremely accurate for positioning the height of the lamps. Stepper motors can be found in old floppy drives, which are sold in big batches making the price of a stepper motor about 2 euros a piece. A new Stepper motor can be bought around 10 euros.
