Concept
Based on the research and survey conducted on the site among various users of the NDSM wharf, we have identified several keywords that reflect needs of the users and desired qualities of our project.
Project aims & objectives
The Ribbon_Ondina aims to facilitate requests suggested by the interviewees and provide a new quality of space at the NDSM. We wanted to respect the great diversity of the NDSM at the moment and take into consideration the future development of the site, that most probably will lean towards predominantly residential area with mixed-use spaces.
Method
We have decided to highlight the unique qualities of the NDSM (historical context, present-day creativity hub, festival spot, relationship with the river IJ) and rebrand the whole site using our system. The Ribbon_Ondina wraps around the versatile site and makes it stand out visually. To reconcile differentiated spots on the wharf, our system is based on formal contrast between Ribbon_Ondina and the rest of the NDSM. We have decided to use soft lines, organic-like shapes and fair colour scheme to accentuate the NDSM in Amsterdam's river landscape during the day and we use lighting along the whole wharf at the night to emphasize the identity.
