Lunch with Rianne van Duin and Maurits Homan

During my visit to the Kunststad at NDSM wharf I accidentally met Maurits Homan and Rianne van Duin . They were to have lunch in Rianne’s studio so they invited me to join them.

Rianne designs interactive books for children. She shares a studio with several others, also working in the field of applied arts. She says she participated in the building process of the studio. Well, working in a studio built by its users could be quite inspiring. Inspiration is the keyword she uses when talking about her thoughts about the Kunststad: It is really a place that does inspire its users. So as the main accessibility of the wharf. Maurits, who is an industrial designer also having a studio in Kunststad finds the ferry trip every morning as the best episode of the day.

To my question of what the wharf site is really lack of Rianne gives the following answer: It would be good to have a place for the children of the workers here, like a kindergarten, as many people working here have small children. Maurits agrees with Rianne’s idea and complements it with saying that such a place could also be used in the evenings as a meeting point. A place for children would serve not only the community of children, but the community of their parents as well, evoking a new network of users of the wharf.

I find their thoughts really worthy to ponder upon.
